Enjoy the week-long Merrie Monarch Festival that runs from March 27 - April 2, 2016. The week-long festival includes art exhibits, craft fairs, demonstrations, performances, a parade that emphasizes the cultures of Hawaii. Most activities during the Festival week are free to the public, however tickets are needed to attend the 3-day hula competition.
9:00 am. - Sunday, March 27, 2016 at the Afook Chinen Civic Auditorium. Free admission to watch performances by our local halau.
Mid-day Entertainment - FREE
Daily (Monday - Friday) entertainment at the Hilo Naniloa Hotel (12:00 pm), and the Hilo Hawaiian Hotel (1:00 pm).
Merrie Monarch Invitational Hawaiian Arts Fair
this free event features local artists, crafters, and entertainment.
9:00 am. to 5:00 pm. - Wednesday, March 30 through Friday, April 1, 2016 and
9:00 am. to 4:00 pm. - Saturday, April 2, 2016 at the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium.
6:00 pm. - Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at the Edith Kanaka'ole Stadium.
An exhibition night of hula and folk dance from around the Pacific. The performances are free to the public, no tickets required.
Miss Aloha Hula
6:00 pm. Thursday, March 31, 2016 at the Edith Kanaka'ole Stadium.
Individual competition for the title of Miss Aloha Hula with contestants performing hula kahiko, hula 'auana and oli (chanting).
Group Hula Kahiko
6:00 pm, Friday, April 1, 2016 at the Edith Kanaka'ole Stadium. Halau hula perform ancient style dances.
Group Hula 'Auana and Awards
6:00 pm. Saturday, April 2, 2016 at the Edith Kanaka'ole Stadium.
Halau hula perform modern style dances with an awards presentation for all group winners.
Merrie Monarch Royal Parade
10:30 am. - Saturday, April 2, 2016. This is an entertaining and fun event for the entire family.
Parade begins and ends at Pauahi St. and winds through downtown Hilo
(Kilauea Ave. - Keawe St. - Waianuenue Ave. - Kamehameha Ave.)
